5th ANNUAL
VIVA SOUTHWEST MARIACHI FESTIVAL

5th Annual Viva Southwest Mariachi Festival

Presented by the MSU Denver Music Department and the Latino Cultural Arts Center, the Viva Southwest Mariachi Festival (VSMF) will celebrate its 5th Year in 2022! Our regional festival provides musical workshops for musicians of all ages; from primary to university level, and community members. Throughout the day, they are guided by professional and award-winning Masters of Mariachi in history, theory and instrumentation. The

The weekend culminates with two Mariachi showcases, on February 19th and 20th, featuring student groups alongside local and national Mariachi Masters and Grammy-nominated headliner, Lupita Infante. We will be introducing the first ever national All-State Mariachi.  Students attending the festival will have the opportunity to audition for selection into the ensemble. The 13 selected students will attend a two-day workshop that will be led by the Mariachi Sol de Mi Tierra’s Musical Director, Juventino Romero. The festival will close with a Mariachi Tardeada that features the All-State Mariachi ensemble opening for festival headliner, Lupita Infante on February 20th at 3pm, at the King Concert Hall.

Lupita Infante has forged herself a successful career with a solid academic background, intuition, and the talent that she carries in her blood. Representing the third generation of the Infante musical dynasty, Lupita Infante on September 27 released her first album “La Serenata.” In 2020, she received nominations at the 21st Latin GRAMMY® and 63rd GRAMMY® Awards 2020 in the category . This 2021, she obtained another nomination to the Latin Grammy with Nora Gonzalez’ single “Cicatrices”.

In June 2017, Lupita received her Bachelor’s in Ethnomusicology from UCLA, where she
participated in Mariachi de Uclatlán. Founded in 1961, it was the world’s first university-level mariachi ensemble. In addition, she has appeared on The Voice Mexico, where she competed in Carlos Vives’ team. She has opened for ranchera greats Shaila Dúrcal and Beatriz Adriana, and in 2018 she performed in the famed Mariachi USA festival at the Hollywood Bowl.

Believing in a hopeful future no matter where you begin and appreciation for the journey that unfolds along the way, Lupita Infante celebrated life by pursuing her passion for music and honoring the legacy she inherited.
